Résumé

Figure du théâtre pour la jeunesse en France dans la première moitié du xx^e siècle, Léon Chancerel explore notamment l’imaginaire de Noël avec ses Comédiens Routiers et leurs dramaturgies de la Nativité. Son Noël routier (1939) ne déploie pas une féerie spectaculaire, mais cherche à évoquer le mystère de l’Incarnation au moyen d’une symbolisation épurée, fidèle aux conceptions esthétiques du dramaturge. À l’inverse, le romancier Jean-Louis Foncine, qui s’intéressa durant un temps aux Comédiens Routiers, met en œuvre, dans son « Noël de la Route » (1958), une féerie produite par un faire semblant qui confine au leurre.

Abstract

Léon Chancerel, a leading figure in French theater for young people in the first half of the 20th century, explored the imaginary world of Christmas with his Comédiens Routiers and their dramatizations of the Nativity. His Noël routier (1939) does not deploy a spectacular enchantment, but evokes the mystery of the Incarnation by a refined symbolization, following his aesthetic conceptions. On the other hand, the novelist Jean-Louis Foncine, who was interested during one time in the Comédiens Routiers, implements in « Le Noël de la Route » (1958) an enchantment produced by a make-believe which is close to lure.
